They usually appear on or very close to the external reproductive organs in men and women. The ulcers either bleed or produce a fluid that is highly contagious. The bacteria get transmitted during oral, vaginal or anal intercourse when a healthy person is exposed to the contagious fluid or blood that fills the ulcers.
